Old devices and files not only take up space—they also take hits from cybercriminals in search of your data. That’s why, yesterday, the Office of Information Security at ITS hosted another successful Data Destruction Day on the Boston Campus.
Simply donating or disposing of your old devices can put you at risk to have your data stolen. But on our annual Data Destruction Day, Procurri Data Security Services comes equipped with the right tools to responsibly destroy hard drives and other forms of data storage to put data out of harm’s way for good.

As he walked us through the steps of secure data destruction, Jon Frazier of Procurri Data Security Services made yesterday’s Data Destruction Day an exciting and educational one.

“I don’t use the laptop or the data anymore, and I wanted to make sure it was securely destroyed. And it was convenient to do it on campus!”

Discussing Data and Duo
Data Destruction Day attendees had lots to talk about as well. Curious onlookers stopped by and learned the significance of the event and how they can be more responsible with their data year-round. Along with swag such as pens and screwdrivers, those who stopped by left with more information about responsible data disposal and the newly required Duo two-factor authentication service for university community members, rolling out this month.
What’s Next for #NCSAM
For those who want to learn more about cybersecurity, National Cyber Security Awareness Month is still underway. The Northeastern University Preparedness Day Conference takes place October 17 to 18, where you can explore keynote presentations, hands-on exhibits, and more, for building skills on reducing cyberattack severity.
Then later this month, the Compliance Colloquium features professionals from the FBI who will reveal how to safely travel with electronic devices in a panel that takes place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on October 24. We encourage you to register for this event soon as space is limited!
